Can I get a Cold Even with a Flu Shot?
My mom is starting to having cold symptoms but she got her Flu shot like 2-3 weeks ago. Can that happen or should we go to the hospital to check if she has H1N1? thank you for your help!

yes can get a cold after getting the flu shot
they are not the same thing so the shot doesn't protect against it but a cold only lasts for about 1-2 days and the flu can last for weeks

after 5 days of being sick or having a fever or more then 102.0 then go to a doctor

The flu and the Rhinovirus (common cold) are two completely different viruses, so yes, it can happen. If she was going to get sick from the flu shot she received you would know it before now, flu takes approximately 7 days to incubate. As for H1N1, unless she has a very high fever, profuse vomiting or dehydration, they won't be able to do anything for your mother at the hospital except maybe start her on Tamiflu, an antiviral drug, which will lessen the symptoms and duration but that is it. Don't start to panic unless there is truly is something to panic about, it will be a waste of the hospital's time and resources and doozy of a bill for your family and insurance for "cold symptoms".

You can get the Cold even if you have the Flu Shot. The Cold is a result of a bacterial infection in the body. The flu is a result of a viral infection in the body. Bacterial and viral infections are different. Bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics. Antibiotics don't work with the flu or any other viral infection. If she has the cold, she doesn't have the H1N1 since H1N1 is a viral infection. However if her symptoms persist or get worse, it's best to just see a doctor.
As far as going to a hospital, it's only required in a 911 emergency situation or if your doctor recommends you go. Hospitals have a lot of critically ill patients and it will be a waste of resources, their time, and yours especially when you get a bill for the patient and the insurance for just a cold.

if she is with cold it does not mean that she has H1N1 most probably she is only suffering from plain coryza or running nose or even respiratory tract infection, she only needs rest and medication to relief her symptoms . however in order for you and your mom to have peace of mind go to a doctor for check up .

The cold and the flu are caused by different viruses. The shot protects you from the most common flu viruses, but doesn't protect you from cold viruses. Furthermore, there are hundreds of cold viruses and flu viruses. The flu vaccine only protects you from the three most widespread strains of flu virus. So yes, you can get a cold, and you can even get sick from a flu virus that wasn't in the vaccine.

A regular flu shot does not protect you from H1N1. You need to get BOTH the flu shot AND the H1N1 flu shot in order to be protected from both.
