Can viral infections like a cold or a flu be transferred through genital contact?
I mean, out of curiosity, if there were no kissing, or even no human contact, could, say.. the fluids of the vagina pick up viral infections?
From someone else's genitals?
Or what if like.. You touched something, and then masturbated, could that get you sick?
What about sweat? Are viruses (and bacteria, though I'm not as interested in that) able to seep out of pores via sweat?
:D
Thank you in advance.
The thought just kind of hit me when I woke up, and now I'm really curious!
Thank you!
I'm going in for massage therapy, actually, but medical health has always been my more 'professional' passion. I'm an artist as a hobby, a personal escape, but in school sciences is what really makes me happy.
I love it when I get expert answers like this, it makes me happy. I've got too much curiosity for my own good.
But, what about things like Rabies? Rabies gets into your saliva glands, and quickly infests the entire body, and they say it's transferable by any bodily fluid, so would that work for Rabies? If it could survive in saliva could it survive in sweat...?

Question #1: No, not viral infections like colds and flu. These viruses are respiratory.
Question #2: Now you're talking about viral infections in a general way so (a) it depends on the virus and (b) inanimate objects can transfer microorganisms as effectively as human contact.
Question #3: From some one else's genitals? Depends on the virus.
Question #4: See #2 b.
Question #5: Virus due to their nature cannot survive outside human cells. Cells do not seep out of pores, therefore no.
If you're really interested in learning more about viruses, how they differ from bacteria and about viral transmission, I suggest you run several searches on these topics.

I'm wondering if there wasn't any contact at all from a human then how would any viral infection invade the vaginal canal? There has to be human contact at some point before the virus can be transferred. If you touch something like dirty laundry or dishes and then masturbated without washing first then it might be possible for bacteria to be transferred. If you think about how many times you touch things without washing first you can see how this can happen. The food we eat alone we touch before putting into our mouths and the mouth also is riddled with bacteria. I have never taken care of anyone that got sick from a sweat transfer. As far as that goes the cell transfer isn't possible through sweat. Rabies has really not been a problem among humans lately. People make sure that there pets are vaccinated and the word about any animal acting strangely has been so widely spread that those cases have also been few and far between. Your curiosity would be better satisfied if you go into the medical research area of health. Your natural "need to know" would be better satisfied and I think you would be happier with the work. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with the rest of your life, but please stay in the medical field somewhere.
