Does NyQuil/Dayquil make one's cold/flu last longer?
A few years ago I read that because NyQuil/DayQuil and any other over the counter cold medicine suppresses cold/flu symptoms that it makes it hard for the body to heal/recover which makes the cold/flu last longer. Is this true, or not?

I have probably one of the worst cold/flu right now(don't know which it is) and last night I got no sleep at all. I don't know if I should just tough it out and drink green and white tea to help fight the cold or if I should just go and get some NyQuil and Dayquil so I can at least function through the day and sleep at night.

It suppresses symptoms, yes. If you have bad phlegm, you're supressing your coughing by taking the medicine, and just letting it stay in your throat. That's all i can think of, though.

When I took day quil for the first time for one it was disgusting and two it still made me sleepy, night quil does nothing but help you sleep better while your sick. What really helps the colds and flu is natural substance like hotty toughties, hot tea, pickles and salt and vinegar for the sore throat, oranges, anything with citrus helps the milk is for like stomach viruses because calcium coats the stomach from raging stomach acids. There were time where I thought I was gonna be sick but my body fought it off on it's own but in the past when I would take medicine to supposedly fight the cold before it gets to bad I still got sick anyways. Our immune systems are meant to get sick just so it can heel on its own and instead of taking medicine to go to sleep drink something hot like hotty toughties tea lemon and a tea spoon of whiskey that will put you right to sleep and the next day you will be refreshed. But you have the flue so eat some soup and drink some hot nice tea.
