Helpful foods during cold/flu?
Are there any healthy and helpful foods/natural remedies that seem to help with the cold or flu? I've been sick with congestion and a cough and sore throat for four days now and I'm tired of feeling like there is nothing I can do as far as medication goes.

34 weeks pregnant.

We are in the same boat, But I'm 14wks.

I can't stand being sick any more, Ive come to the point where I'm even mad about being sick.

As far as a sore throat, I use throat coat-it a herbal tea and ricola cough drops.
Congestion, well there's no natural way of getting rid of that I don't think. You could try a humidifier w/ some Vick's vapor rub.

I sure hope you get better soon, Take Care

Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade soups, teas, and garlic. Garlic (eaten raw) is one of the best natural remedies for fighting any kind of infection, viral or bacterial. Ginger as well is excellent for it's healing properties. Here is a website with wonderful information on natural health remedies etc. that are safe for pregnancy.

scroll down the page and look for something that interests you. There are a huge number of things you can do. Aromatherapy is good too. Just read up on what is safe for pregnancy.

I have been studying natural/herbal remedies for year, and from my own pregnancy I learned that Echinacea and ginger root for the cold/flu and licorice root for the throat work best.Odwalla sells a great Echinacea juice that works well....otherwise a good, strong, natural Echinacea tea or some fresh pressed ginger root juice work great. As for the licorice root, make a tea with licorice root, and let it steep for like 25 minutes. An easier way, Stash teas makes a tasty all natural licorice root tea.
