How dangerous would it be to take 3-years-expired OTC cold medicine?
I have a clogged left ear, as a result of a nasty, drawn-out cold. I found some Contac cold medicine (blister-seal packaged) in my medicine cabinet and it contains the one ingredient (pseudoephedrine) that I believe will help. Is this safe?

It should be safe, but the effectiveness of it isn't going to be much. The older it gets, the effectiveness of it goes away.

not that old could make the problem worse throw it out and you might want to see a Dr. for your ear otherwise try the health food store they have good remades good luck

i doubt it will hurt you but I don't think it will work if it is that old. the chemicals mutate over time and become useless. Think about it the expiration dates are actually out there a while so if it is 3 years out of date you probably bought it like 5 years ago.

Chances are the psudophedrine will be so old it will not work. It won't hurt you to take it, it just may not give you the relief you are looking for. Heck, go buy a new bottle. You can take it tonight and see if it works any, then go get some new tomorrow. You might want to try some warm Olive Oil. Warm it up and place just a few drops in your ear. This may help with unclogging your ear. Just make sure it is warm and NOT hot. Hope you feel better soon!! =)
