An unusually high number of students have reported influenza-like symptoms at Basswood Elementary in Maple Grove, part of the Osseo School District, prompting district officials to issue a letter to parents yesterday. Parents at individual school sites receive notification when the number of students absent or sent home with influenza-like illness reaches 5 percent of the total school enrollment on a given day or three or more students from the same elementary classroom are absent or sent home with influenza-like illness on a given day. Basswood Elementary was the first District 279 school to send home a notification since school started two weeks ago.
