Do you have any tips for not getting sick when you feel a cold or the flu coming on?
I have been doing everything possible to not get sick. I wash my hands all the time, I take vitamins, I exercise, I try my best to avoid sick people. However, today I woke up feeling so tired and the back of my throat is starting to itch and my body feels achy. I know this feeling. It happens whenever I'm about to really get sick. And I don't just get a little sniffly sick. I get full-blown 'can't get out of bed because I might pass out' sick.I am getting the flu shot tomorrow, but I have a wedding to go to this weekend along with a million pre-wedding activities plus I have to work every day. I cannot afford to get sick! Does anyone have any advice on how to nip this thing in the bud? I'm really desperate!

It doesn't always work but often does--here's what I do: 4 droppers of echinacea purpurea (or angustifolia) liquid extract, in a bit of water. This should be made from the ROOT, not other parts of plant. Repeat in 1 hour. Then take 1 dropper every four hours until symptoms go away. This gives the immune system a sort of shot in the arm. Also with the initial dose, take 1 dropper of elderberry liquid extract and repeat every 4 hours. This works on the flu bug.
If you are coming down with the flu, probably not a good idea to take the vaccine right now.

Try good old Vitamin C, as follows: As soon as you notice you are coming down with a cold, take 2 1000 mg tablets. Take two more at bedtime on the same day.
The next two days, take two 1000 mg tablets twice a day, morning and evening.
Also, go to your local health food store and get some colloidal silver, the water soluble kind. Take the recommended dose for two days.
Both remedies will nip that cold in the bud nine times out of ten.

If you are getting sick, I would be surprised if the staff lets you get the flu shot - and I would not suggest it - - here is why - - any vaccine temporarily suppresses the immune system, and so the infection you have now will hit you with a much larger wallop. So if I were you, I would skip it.
Sometimes a long hot bath helps me in that situation (its like inducing a fever of sorts, and helps the body fight things) - but if you are too far gone, you better just plan on being sick.
Hope you feel better

Ayurveda:
At the first sign of the flu, switch to a bland diet, says Vasant Lad,B.A.M.S., M.A.Sc., director of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He especially recommends soft-cooked rice( rice that has a very soft, moist texture created by a longer cooking time with more water) with a pinch of cumin, ginger Power and turmeric for seasoning. The ginger and cumin heat up your body, so you can sweat out toxins, he explains. And, he says, turmeric has antibiotic and antiseptic qualities.
To ease the congestion that can accompany the flu. Dr. Lad suggests this formula: Mix just under1/2 teaspoon each of sitopaladi power(available in most health food stores) and sudarshan(available from Ayurvedic practitioner), with1/2 teaspoon of honey to sweeten. 'Take a teaspoonful of this mixture every few hours," says Dr. Lad. "You'll be amazed at how quickly your symptoms disappear."
