Getting the H1N1 and flu shot while pregnant?
My husband is really pushing for at least the flu shot, and kind of for the H1N1. I am 22 years old, almost 20 weeks pregnant with our first child. I'm gonna be pregnant pretty much all flu season. But, I have never had the flu, only mild colds. I also live in the middle of Texas where it's warmer so in the almost 3 years I've been here I haven't gotten anything other than allergies or sinus infections. I worked for 5 years during flu seasons in customer service and never got it. I'm extremely cautious about eating healthy (I have been since I got pregnant) and proper hygiene. I'm also a huge germaphobe, so I wash my hands constantly and have 3 bottles of santizer for my purse, car, and the house :). I am not working right now, so the only time I really go outside is my morning walks or to the store for groceries. So I really don't see me putting myself or my baby in danger, and I hate the idea of injecting myself with any shots while pregnant. I know the regular flu shot is mercury free and is a dead virus, but I've never had it before so why start now? And the H1N1...well they announced several times that it has not been tested on pregnant women. Anyways, that is not the issue and please don't debate me about the safety of either of these. I just want to know who is getting the flu shot and/or the H1N1 while pregnant? Why or why not?
Thank you everyone for you replies and opinions. We are doing a lot of research on the H1N1 right now. The flu shot I might get, but even my midwife is leary of the H1N1.

Your immune system is weaker when you are pregnant, that is why the DR's want pregnant women to get both the Flu shot and the H1N1 shot.
It's your choice in the end, but I can tell you from experience that last year when I was 25 weeks pregnant I caught the flu, worst 3 days of my life! I was put on bed rest for 3 days while my husband was in Iraq and trying to sleep off 102 degree fever with a 5 and 6 year old by myself was not fun.
Read up on the H1N1 and Flu shot, weigh out your pros and cons of why and why not you want to get it then decide from there.

I rarely ever get sick either, but I'm still getting the vaccine. Swine flu or any other type of flu could kill both me and the baby, and I'm not willing to take the risk. I've had other vaccines in the past and haven't had any adverse reactions, so I'm really not worried.
