Is it true that having the Flu during pregnancy causes schizophrenia to the baby in later life?
I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I'm not sure whether i have the cold or flu. I have a dr.s appt on Monday and I'll ask him then.

I just read about the flu causing schizophrenia on the baby is that true? Did anyone have it during pregnancy and does your child have this?? THANK YOU.
Nobody told me I googled Flu during pregnancy and there was an ARticle about it.
This is the article.. I am sure it's not entirely true.. I was just wondering if anyone caught the flu and the baby didnt' have it, just for reassurance:)

No!

Surprisingly, schizophrenia is more common than you think. 7 out of every 10 people you see have the disorder, so basically 70 percent of the population. Only about 3 out of 10 have it so severely that they need to be medicated. These are accurate percentages out of my psych book. This site contains more info, but it does not say that it's from the mothers getting the flu. It is hereditary though.

I found it, it's just a study. I think they're pulling things out of the air and correlating them. They do not have definitive proof that it was linked to the flu, just that more babies turned out to be schizophrenic when their mothers were exposed to the flu. They do not think the risk is great enough to attempt to give women the flu shot when heavily pregnant though. It seems to be localized to the first trimester, 13 weeks, or so it says. I don't think you have anything to worry about. This is similar to the articles they put out every few months about eggs, first being good for you, then bad, then good, then bad, etc. ;)

I doubt it....it just doesn't seem plausible. Are you sure it wasn't an article about taking a certain drug for the flu causing schizophrenia?
