Flu is short form of saying influenza.
Flu is seasonal...so yes, it is common.
There are many types and forms, caused by various strains of viruses. So to know the exact statistics, look up the information once you know which type of strain you want to know about.
Influenza is caused by viruses, so is cold, but different kinds.
Cold is mostly a simple term to define upper respiratory system disease.
Flu and cold are diseases...bot viruses...they are caused by viruses.

both of them are very common, influenza is one of the viruses causing them, others like adenovirus, and respiratory scincitial virus, and the recently discovered meta pneumovirus, the word "cold" is not scientific, and it can be used for allergic conditions
