What kind of nurse should I be?
I applied to my university as a nursing major with a BS and plan on being a RN. I don't really like to work in a fast paced/gorey, environment. My idea of nursing is working at some sort of health center, taking care of people with colds/flu/etc, taking their blood pressure, calm environment.

Sorry, but my mom was RN. She worked in every environment imaginable. You need to just suck it up and be ready for anything. You can't single out one area. You will see it all in any area you want to work whether you like it or not. You could try Case Management but you need a Master's or greater for that. My mom did that later in her career but she worked her way up to that.

you better go into home health care then because any hospital or nursing home you work as a nurse it's gorey and fast paced. i know i am also a nurse.the patients in almost all of these centers are very ill and have alzeimers.

I suggest that you consider mental health nursing. You can work in outpatient programs, chemical dpendency units, inpatient hospital programs (some are relaxing, others are intensed and moderate paced), and there exists other opportunities as well.

You won't make as much money working in a physician's office, but there is no gore and the hours that you work (days) are hard to beat.

I don't think psych nursing would be good for you, because that's really stressful. Can you imagine getting strangled or worrying about one of your patients attacking you? Are you prepared to deal with having patients like Andrea Yates? Could you defend yourself if a patient tried to harm you? Does becoming looked at like you're Nurse Ratched, or the embodiment of all evil make you want to jump out of bed everyday?

Clinical nursing sounds like a fit for you.
