Can a flu turn into a cold?
My friends little brother caught a really bad flu. He was puking everywhere for most of the day. That was a few days ago. But now he sounds all stuffed up like he has a bad cold and keeps coughing. Whenever I have had the puking flus, I have been fine usually in 24-48 hours. I have never heard of someone having cold like symptoms after catching the flu. Is this possible or did he most likely catch a cold right after the flu?
Also, would the flu still be contagious since he seems to still be sick? I thought flus weren't contagious after the 48 period but I'm not so sure anymore since he still appears to be sick.

They are different viruses so one does not cause the other; however, if you are already sick with one illness, your immune system is suppressed which can cause you to be more prone to get sick by another virus or bacteria.
For the flu, the contagious period typically lasts five to seven days into the illness. For children, the contagious period for the flu can last up to two weeks after they start feeling sick, even if they start feeling better before that. The contagious period for a cold lasts about three to four days into the illness. As a general rule, people with a cold are most contagious about three days after their initial exposure to the virus.

The flu is not just a cold. A cold is much milder than the flu. He had a flu likely. The flu is contagious many days after you get it. When you get the flu you'll know it, you feel like you're 121 yrs old, just about dead.
Feel lucky if you just have a cold.

No, flu is flu and colds are colds. Both are viruses but a cold could no more become a virus than you could become a different person. What can happen is other viruses take advantage of the fact that you're already sick and weakened and you end up getting one illness right after another. Its not uncommon but usually when we feel sick we stay in bed and don't come in contact with other viruses. Every once in a while a different bug sneaks in when our body is busy fighting off something else.
If you are talking about influenza, the contagious period begins about 2 days before you feel sick and lasts about 5 days after that. If he's only been sick for 2 days he is still contagious

"Can a flu turn into a cold?" -- No, they're caused by completely different viruses and flu viruses don't "morph" into cold viruses.
"Whenever I have had the puking flus, I have been fine usually in 24-48 hours." -- This is not typical of influenza and sounds more like viral gastroenteritis, an entirely different problem. Perhaps you have a very efficient immune system.
"My friends little brother caught a really bad flu. He was puking everywhere for most of the day. That was a few days ago. Do you understand that flu is an upper respiratory infection, the same way a cold is an upper respiratory infection? Of course your brother's coughing and congested.
"Also, would the flu still be contagious since he seems to still be sick? I thought flus weren't contagious after the 48 period but I'm not so sure anymore since he still appears to be sick." -- The flu is contagious a day or two before the first symptoms appear and for 5-7 days after becoming sick but the contagious period can last up to 2 weeks in kids. Considerably longer than 48 hours so keep your distance.
