Yes you can overdose

You can only become high if it has the ingredient Dextromethorphan.
But do not do it unless someone is watching you to see if you have a reaction or problems due to it and can help.

From personal experience, overdosing on Cough Syrup isn't the best experience. The main psychoactive chemical, Dextromethorphan, causes you to trip out. I know for a fact that it is quite dangerous and damaging, and I believe that yes, in extremely high doses it could result in death.

Yes, any drug that you take too much, causes poisoning, usually leading to death. Here is more information:
Common brand name(s)
Guiatuss, Organidin NR, Robitussin
Uses
This medication is used for the temporary relief of coughs caused by certain respiratory tract infections (e.g., common cold, sinusitis, bronchitis) and other breathing illnesses. This product is usually not used for ongoing cough from smoking or long-term breathing problems (e.g., chronic bronchitis, emphysema) unless directed by your doctor.Guaifenesin belongs to a class of drugs known as expectorants. It works by thinning and loosening mucus in the airways, clearing congestion, and making breathing easier.Do not use this medication in children younger than 2 years unless specifically directed by the doctor. To decrease the risk for serious side effects, carefully follow all of the doctor's dosage directions. Do not give other cough and cold medication that might contain the same or similar ingredients (see also Drug Interactions section). Ask your doctor or pharmacist about other ways to relieve cough and cold symptoms (e.g., saline nose drops/spray, using a humidifier or infant nasal suction bulb).
Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents should call the US National Poison Hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents should call a provincial poison control center. Symptoms of overdose may include: nausea, vomiting.

I am sure that the label on the bottle would give the appropriate warning. For example, not to exceed a certain dosage in a certain number of hours. Since a lot of these over-the-counter cold and cough medicines have sedatives, it could be dangerous to overdose on any of them.
I believe there was a story that surfaced on the news of babies that were dying as a result of overdosing. This problem developed when unsuspecting parents started on one type of cough syrup and in only a few days, switched to another brand when they felt the first one wasn't working well. The accumulation proved to be deadly in the infants.
This is one reason why I prefer and often recommend the use of natural foods to treat some illnesses and lose weight. I am well aware that abuse can occur with the overuse of any substance - even if it is a natural, healthy alternative to drugs.
However, it is advisable to use natural herbal teas and clear liquids to flush out colds and avoid drugs as much as possible, except there is a bacterial infection that needs medical intervention.
Before we had all these chemically formulated cold and cough medicines, we were using natural remedies and practicing prevention.
