it depends 100% on the virus. different viruses live for different amounts of time outside of a host for different times, depending on how stable the virus is. all viruses are obligate intracellular parasites, meaning that most viruses cannot survive for very long at all outside of a host. some viruses, however, can indeed survive for days outside of a host. just depends on the virus.
