Does physical fitness effect recovery time from cold,flu and virus?
My girlfriend has a viral infection (Doctor informed her) and now I have just caught the early symptom signs, But what I wondered was how does (If it does) physical fitness effect how the body deals with cold flu's and virus? I went for an 80mile (125km) cycle and it didn't bother me this morning, I've not been ill in many years and I exercise everyday. I am currently in training and cycling 400-500miles a week. Question is, will I fall flat on my face for 10 days or will I still have a get up and go? and also will I recover faster? I fly out to china in 4 days and i also don't want to pass it on.

Im currently taking a year break from training in Rowing...After 5 years of it i have learned a few things about becoming sick....and that is to stop and recover, otherwise you may make the sickness far far worse! It is better to be safe than sorry, and falling ill during your strenuous exercise may have dire effects in a few weeks or months...Many of my fellow rowers, my self included often fell ill during training in terrible conditions and our coach(former olympic rower) always advised to take the time off (sickness easily spreads when rowing)....He often told us about how he trained during a week he was sick and missed out on rowing in Irish Campionship Events because his sickness got worse and worse...with all the work you have put into your cycling it would be a shame to wreck it all...take your time off before you go to China, relax ...eat well (loads of fruit and veg.), take your vitamins and you will be well to train again when your back...also as you do sound a very fit and healthy person the virus should pass quickly...hope this helps!..enjoy your trip :)
