How can I kill a cold virus while it is still in my tonsils?
I have that tell tale sign of an oncoming head cold - the swollen aching tonsils. Are their any good remedies for killing off the virus before it spread to my nose and throat?

Try gargling with hydrogen peroxide. It works for me and it whitens your teeth.

One of my favorite "Uh, oh, I might be getting sick" remedies is to take a cup of tomato juice or spicy bloody mary mix (no vodka), heat it up and add about 1/2 a tsp. of Cayenne pepper. It's pretty hot and it doesn't taste great, but for some reason, it tends to open up your nasal passages and relieves the early warnings of a sore throat. The Listerine and hydrogen peroxide will probably help too. Drink lots of fluids, take vitamin c and a couple zinc lozenges. You'll beat it!!
