How do I know if my child has the swine flu?
My child is three and she has a cough and a running nose. I think she has the cold but my mom and sister told me that she might have the swine flu. I think they said that just so they can scare me in to giving her a H1N1 shot. Should I? Is it too late? Will it help? Are there any bad side effects with it?

Why does everyone keep scaring everyone with this swine flu thing. Stay healthy and stay out of crowds and wash your hands before eating and putting them in your mouth, use common sense.

If the kid is only 3, then just have the doctor test to see if it is the swine flu, until they test for it, you won't know. If my kid just had a cough and running nose, I wouldn't worry unless it got worse. Then I would see a doctor.

H1N1 Flu Virus

What to do if you have symptoms

Symptoms

H1N1 flu feels very much like the regular seasonal flu. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

The swine flu seems to have headache, and high fever as the main symptoms, as well as the usual. If you child doesn't have a fever, probably is a virus like a cold. Rest, fluids and comfort measures are the best treatment. The swine flu shot is a good idea if you can get one, but wait until she is better. They have pretty much stopped testing for swine flu- they are saying if you have the flu, it is the H1N1.
By the way, I had the mist vaccne a few weeks ago- I am fine. No symptoms.
