Is It Safe To Take An Anti-Histamine (Benadryl) Even When I Don't Have Allergy/Cold Symptoms?
Anti-Histamines like Benadryl make me sleepy, so when I can't fall asleep at night I take a Benadryl and I can sleep throughout the night. Is it safe to do this occasionally?
Yes, I definitely only use it occasionally when I really need it. Thanks for the answers!

I don't see how it would be harmful as long as you do this only occasionally, and take it according to the directions on the label to avoid harmful drug interactions.

yes, Benadryl is a lot safer than those PM medications, some Doc's even prescribe them for sleep.

Yes it is safe to do this occasionally most of the sleeping preparations for sale in the pharmacy have an antihistamine as the active ingredient.

Yes Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is the ingredient used in some sleep-aids OTC...so it is fine...you may experience dry mouth and dry feelings of the mucous membranes of the nose if you use it much...but occasionally is fine...I wouldn't do it every night.

you are best using a natural herbal sleeping tablet like nytol or other options like warm milk or if its very bad ask your pharmacy or gp the thing with taking a drug like benadryl regularly to aid sleep is when you need it for its actual ease of symptoms ie if you get hay fever or itchy skin it wont be so helpful to you because your body will be used to it hope this makes sense and helps
