Is my cat having a reaction to her flu antibiotics?
The vet put my cat on antibiotics because she had the flu/cold. She has been on them for the past 5 days, and while the flu/cold is not completely gone, she is doing better. However, for the last two days, she has had diarreah and has just been hanging out in her litterbox (I have her separated in the bathroom and I just bought her a new covered catbox, so I'm not sure if she is hiding or is not feeling well.) Before I bug the vet again, I just wanted to see if you guys have had any experience with this before. I know that kids can get diarrea from antibiotics, but I could not find anything on the internet if cats could as well. Thanks!

I have a strong feeling that this is because of the meds she was put on. I would suggest calling the vet (they really won't mind I'm sure) to make sure that you shouldn't be alarmed. Most meds for cats cause this problem so I think it should be ok.....
Good luck, I hope the cat feels better!

Hi there,
I fostered kittens for a while and have always kept cats. The diorrhoea is something to watch as cats become dehydrated very quickly. Is it possible you could just call your Vet and tell him what is happening.. Also, when my cats were unwell I would put them on a diet of plain rice/chicken... I would stop all dairy and tinned foods.. and provide fresh water.
Good luck.. hope your cat recovers soon.

Well the list of side effects that go along with antibotics is just a few. The top two are diarrhea and vomiting. So it sounds like a side effect. I'd call the vet just because if the diarrhea is significant enough, your cat can become dehydrated and cause more health problems. It doens't hurt to call and ask.

More than likely a combo of the actual flu bug and the antiobiotics. and cats aly in their litter box because it's where they feel safe when they are scared or sick. I would just call the Vet. You can feed her some cooked white rice mixed with a little chicken broth to stop the diarrea though

I have two cats that suffer from Feline Herpes and when they have an outbreak they have to be put on antibiotics.
One of the cats never has a problem but the other always gets the diarrhea when she's taking them.
Make sure kitty stays hydrated, they can become dehydrated quickly when they have diarrhea.
Keep an eye on her for the rest of today, but if at any time she seems to get worse take her back to the Vet.
If she's still having diarrhea tomorrow I'd call the Vet just to be on the safe side.
Good luck, I hope kitty feels better soon.
