severe night sweats after just getting over severe head cold / flu?
I came down with what I would classify as a severe head cold, borderline flu type virus. Lasted about 5 days in all with the first three being brutal. On ther 4th night I woke up drenched in sweat, but did not feel hot. I had taken tylenol pm cold and flu medicine.

I have always read that night sweats are a sign of serious illness, so I'm curious if this type of experience I had is normal, or perhaps a sign of something more serious?

Your body is getting rid of the illness, night sweats after a severe cold are common.

I had chronic fatigue syndrome and that caused night sweats.

Chronic fatigue is caused by the same virus that causes mono. Are you sure you didnt have mono?

They can be a sign of serious illness but judging from your previous symptoms I would say it is just from being sick...if you are truly concerned I would suggest you see a doctor for a more formal diagnosis...

Whenever I have nights sweats when I'm sick its a sign that it almost over. Almost like I'm sweating out the sickness.

And there is no cure for the common cold, so when you take medicines to alleviate the sypmtoms, you actually prevent your body from doing what it needs to do to heal itself and you will actually stay ill for longer. Best to just stay hydrated and rest.
