Do I need prescription medecine if I have a sinus infection?
Or can I buy something over the counter to clear it up completely? Im not sure but I think I have had a recurring sinus infection over the past 2 months - unless I keep getting colds or the flu. But I am assuming its a sinus infection because I keep getting a sore throat *I was tested for strep and dont have it* and it feels like my whole head is pressurized and I have the worst stuffy nose, lots of mucus (color is green/yellow) and a fever. I have been coughing a lot too but Im assuming this is from all the mucus. Thanks for any answers; its easier to find an answer on here than it is to actually see/talk to my doctor, as I can never get an appointment with them (and being that Im on Medicaid, I only have that one doctor as an option to go to) so yeah Im in a rut. I only had a throat culture done at the ER to make sure I didnt have strep.

Any infection is caused by a bacteria and it takes an antibiotic to get rid of that. SO you do need to see a doctor. May as well get it over with as it will only get worse.

I don't think over the counter stuff will work with this infection? Mostly those medicines just relieve the symptoms while your body fights off the infection naturally, they don't do much to actually get rid of the problem. Sometimes that can help by reducing irritation and stuff like that, but this doesn't seem like something your body is able to get rid of on its own since it recurs.
I would just go in & get the antibiotics, that'll get rid of it quickest/most reliably.

I'm sorry but it does sound like you're going to need a doctor to prescribe antibiotics for you. Nasal decongestants might help, along with Mucinex.
