A disease is caused by a virus, among other things like bacteria.

There is no difference really. A disease is something that is caused by an external source related to a virus, bacteria, or fungus.

There are two broad categories of disease: infectious and non-infectious. The flu is an example of an infectious disease. Cancer is an example of a non-infectious disease. Infectious diseases are caused by some kind of microbial agent - in the case of the flu this microbial agent is a virus. Another example of an infectious disease caused by a virus would be HIV.
