Can the flu shot trigger flu-like symptoms?
My brother just had the flu shot along with his two little daughters (6 and 5) yesterday afternoon. Now this evening we just heard from him that one of his daughters has a fever and he himself has a sore throat. Could this be attributed to the flu shot? Or is it not possible for the dead flu virus that you get from a flu shot to cause the actual flu or any other type of illness? He already was very dubious about getting these shots but my family ALWAYS gets them year after year and do not get the flu. Thanks in advance.

No it can not give you the flu. The reason why your brother is sick after is either because he had a virus prior to the shot or he is having a reaction to part of the compound of the shot. The flu shot is the dead influenza virus so it can not give you the flu.

I have always been told that if you get the flu shot you can get sick with flu like symptoms but not necessarily with the flu itself b/c they inject a dead flu virus into you. I just gave all my kids flu shots and none of them got sick. Hope that helps

Not only can it do that, it can and usually does give you the flu.
