How do you distinguish ordinary flu from influenza a (h1n1) virus?

Im not sure. I think the only way to tell is to get tested.

I remember reading that the virus swells up the breathing tube thing(sorry i don't know the name) and you usually get a fever around 110, maybe a little less.

You don't. A very, very well equipped lab can tell the difference. (Most hospitals send specimens to the CDC to be tested). Also, the Swine Flu sometimes cause diarrhea or vomiting, which the ordinary flu does not do. Most people experience the exact same symptoms from one as they would from the other, so there is no way to tell. (Lots of people with swine flu do not experience diarrhea or vomiting),
