Is the 2009 H1N1 Swine Flu nasal spray vaccine safe?
On thursday, our school is getting optional H1N1 Swine Flu nasal vaccine. This vaccine is live, attenuated. Is this vaccine safe? What are some of the side effects? How long will the side effects last?
More information would be great.
10 pts. for most, good stuff.
I got sick today and I am getting it in 2 days. If im back in school by thursday, is it still safe to get it?

The novel H1N1 LAIV (Live, attenuated intranasal vaccine) is safe. If it's the first time for a flu vaccination, the immune response may be strong. You may think you have the actual flu but you won't. The vaccine "tricks" you body into thinking it's under attack by the flu. What you may experience (low-grade fever, aches and pains, fatigue, cough) are your own body's defenses in action. This reaction subsides in 1-3 days.

Yes, it is very safe. It is weakened so it cannot cause disease, and it is adapted so it will die quickly and not reproduce if it gets into the lungs. You can get it if you have a mild illness or are recovering from illness.
