Question about cats and flu/cold?
I just brought home a cat from the shelter. It turns out that she has the flu or cold. I am bringing her to the vet in a couple of hours (when I get out of work.) My question is this....I already have two other cats at home. Both have had colds/flu (as they came from a shelter as well) and both have had their vacines for this year. Could they get sick again? If they do, and it is mild, will the symptoms go away on their own? I plan on going home and completely sanitizing my house, but I know that the germs are already present. Thanks!

She may have the highly contagious sickness cats get at the animal shelters because they are so close to each other. Your other cats are in danger of getting it also. I lost one of my cats this way.

Good luck with your kitten.

Cat flu is contagious to other cats (not humans though), but if your other cats have had their vaccines for this year, they should have a good level of immunity, which means they should be able to get over it without medication.

Hope your new addition is feeling better soon.x

Well, your animals are healthy, well fed and vaccinated, I would say the chances of them getting really sick are low. You should ask the vet advice on how to handle this situation and maybe get extra medicine for the other kitties in case they get sick.

I just brought home a cat from a rescue and my dog got it but not my cat, the vet said there isn't anything he can give the dog that she will get rid of it on her own. She is just sneezing and has a really runny nose (clear liquid though). They said if there is color to the runny nose or to eye discharge then it's not good. Hope this helps.

your cat has a virus and you need to treat all of your cats now! this happens when bringing animals from the shelters!
