Swine flu or common cold? Do I need to waste my time and see the doctor?
I had a fever with minor cough and runny nose 3 days ago. I took some Tylenol and I'm all better now except for the cough, which is minimal. I also had diarrhea 2 days ago (probably from eating 1.5 burritos at chipotle last week) and is gone now.

My parents STRONGLY believe i should go get tested for swine flu now, where all my symptoms except for coughing are gone. I think they are retarded and that I simply had a case of the cold. What do you guys think?
thanks to all who answered, but i was unable to convince my parents that i don't need to see a doctor. So, i was dragged up at 7 on a weekend to see my doctor, and just by hearing my symptoms he said i don't have swine flu...

I traveled to Mexico a month before the Swine Flu epidemic made the news, and came home with the worst cold of my life..actually, I would call it an acute respiratory infection. I am in my 20s but this illness robbed me of all energy, caused me to feel like I was suffocating...I would have to stop at the top of the flight of 5 stairs in my house after climbing them and wait while I caught my breath..and at night I could not lay flat without feeling like I was drowning. This persisted for 3 weeks, and I got little relief from any cold medication. Being stubborn, I did not go to a doctor..but in hindsight I think perhaps I had one of the early case of the swine flu.

Anyway...my point is, I think your parents are being overprotective, and there is no need to be tested for swine flu considering your symptoms are going away so quickly. May your good health continue!

If you are pretty much well, why get tested?
But anyway, I'd suggest that one of your parents call the doctor and ask whether the doctor advises you get tested. My guess is, the doctor won't suggest it.
Mike's advice to use Tamiflu at this point is ridiculous.
But if your parents insist, I guess there's no harm in it.
