Viruses are constructed of proteins and a nucleic acid. This means that the most common atoms are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen; followed by nitrogen and phosphorous.

Viruses are essentially just DNA or RNA surrounded by a coat of protein. The atoms that make them up then are the same atoms that make up the macromolecules of other cells, primarily C, H, N, O, S, and P.
