Just out of curiosity... Based on the details unique to the Spanish flu, with knowledge of it, what could one have done to beat the sickness?

apparently social distancing worked very well. But people this flu isnt even bad. The American news dramatizes over it WAYYY more than the Canadian news. It talks about it for 3 minutes on Global and 2day they even said that the swine flu symptoms were milder then the symptoms of the regular seasonal flu... and I dont see anyone freaking out about that flu...
