what factors cause the average, seasonal cold to turn into pneumonia?

If you have a flair up of seasonal allergies, your auto immune system starts working to protect and treat allergy inflammation. This will lower your immunity a little. Just like when you work all day, you get tired and worn out, so does your immune system.

Another factor that may contribute is the the excess phlegm that is caused by allergies and colds can drain down into the lungs. This sticky mucus can very easily grow bacteria. This will cause the immune system to start working again bringing down your immunity again. Many times your body can fight off an infection. It happens more then you know. But every once in a while, you immune system looses the battle.
