Can Robitussin cough and cold cause stomach flu symptoms?
One of my relatives and I came down with stomach flu symptoms with in about 3 hours of taking Robitussin cough and cold. Since it kicked in so fast it sounds like food poisoning to me. We did buy it (Robitussin) at the same time, same store.. tainted batch?

I talked to my dr.'s office on-call nurse, she never heard of it and said it sounds like we must have had the same flu or something and took the Robitussin at around the same cycle of the illness.

All I know is I had a sinus and chest cold until I took Robitussin, then I got stomach flu or something along with it.

*There is no such thing as the "stomach flu".It's called "Norwalk virus".

And no, Norwalk virus is caused by a virus.Food poisoning is caused by a bacteria (doubt it would be in the medication)

You picked it up by not washing your hands and ingesting a vomit/fecal particle that was infected.

Here are some prevention tips:

Fever of 100F to 104F, which can reach 106F when symptoms first develop. Fever is usually continuous, but it may come and go. Fever may be lower in older adults than in children and younger adults. When fever is high, other symptoms usually are more severe.
Body aches and muscle pain (often severe), commonly in the back, arms, or legs.
Headache.
Pain when you move your eyes.
Fatigue, a general feeling of sickness (malaise), and loss of appetite.
A dry cough, runny nose, and dry or sore throat. You may not notice these during the first few days of the illness when other symptoms are more severe. As your fever goes away, these symptoms may become more evident.
Influenza usually does not cause symptoms in the stomach or intestines, such as vomiting and diarrhea.
