Does regular exercise help prevent cold sore outbreaks?
I never had a cold sore outbreak for 2 consecutive years. During those years, I would do aerobic exercise on an elliptical trainer for 50min to 60min, 6days per week. I would burn about 700 to 1000 calories. I started exercising everyother day for 1hour and I have had cold sore outbreaks ever since. Does regular exercise help prevent cold sore outbreaks?

Cold sores, or herpes simplex, are reoccurring. Most people would agree that the triggers for outbreaks can be quite personalized, much like migraine headaches. The virus waits in the nerve root until stimulated and then WHAM! Cold sore. Some of the most common triggers are physical and/or mental stress, trauma to the effected area, very cold dry air, and some food reactions. Try 1% denavir cream, works for me.

It takes 7 days for a cold sore to completely form and they normally last 7 days so I would have to say no, working out doesn't work. Being active may keep the herpes virus from showing all the time but I've never heard of that.
If you are getting them all the time there is a pill your Dr. can prescribe and unfortunately, I cannot recall the name but you Dr. should know.

You are still regularly exercising, so I dont think thats the answer. I know my sisters get them when they do not get enough sleep, so could that be an issue for you? Maybe something else changed since you have been getting them more (different diet, stress, etc.), you would know better than anyone else. I doubt its the exercise though.
