I keep getting recurring cold/flu like symptoms every two-three weeks? Can anybody help me?
I'd just like a bit of help if anybody can explain if there are any underlying causes to this. I'll get a cold and have all the general symptoms such as sore throat and congestion. However I'll also get a fair bit of chest congestion, difficulty breathing, wheezing, heavy chest, hurts when I cough, etc. I went to my docs the first time with these symptoms and he said it's just a bit of a chest infection and gave me antibiotics, I got better like 100% I felt on top of the world... but ever since then every two to three weeks I have had the same problem and I can't afford to keep going to the doctor. Can anybody tell me why this is happening? Is there an underlying cause? Anything I can do to fix it?
I'm 19 years old, I exercise a lot, eat relatively healthy, I don't drink or smoke, i get enough sleep, drink heaps of water all the time and I always make sure to have a lot of vitamin c, both in tablet and food form, I'm not stressed in my life at all and I haven't recently moved or anything... just pre-empting the questions I might get asked haha.
To be honest I'm truly sick of getting sick and then getting excited when i get better and then getting sick again and I'm beginning to worry it's something serious?

I think perhaps it's time to give your home a good overall clean, deep clean- that is. If you have carpets, rent a carpet cleaner. Get the upholstery while you are at it. Attack the bathroom and kitchen with a bleach based cleaner. Clean and disinfect the frig, oven, and microwave. Check the furnace filter, and replace that if needed. Usually when you see somebody with repeated upper respiratory problems, the trouble is in their environment someplace. All those spots I mentioned have a nasty habit of holding molds and mildews, which can cause you the same type problems as a cold. There is a lot to be said for clean houses and fresh air, and don't discount it. I spent a miserable winter one year, thanks to a mold that was inhabiting the under-flooring in front of my door. We didn't make the discovery until spring, when we had to replace/repair the door frame. Pulling up the carpet revealed the culprit. As soon as that was replaced, my sinus/cold problems disappeared. Until then the only break I got was a short time after having had the carpets professionally cleaned. It also doesn't hurt to use an allergen reducing spray on stuff, on a regular basis. And don't forget to open windows/doors to let the fresh air in regularly- even when it's cold outside, and especially because it is. Stale air full of germs are partly to blame for the annual winter uptick in respiratory ailments.

I would suggest you spend the money to see a pulmonologist if this continues. Its obvious what ever is going on is only subdued for a period of time with the antibiotic. You may need an anti fungal if you are hosting a fungus type infection. The antibiotic will treat the symtoms, not the underlying problem. Depending on your geographics have a Valley Fever titer run.

It could be that even though you felt better the infection was not completely gone and you relapsed. You have to make sure to completely take all of the medicine that was prescribed. You may also want to get a chest X-Ray just to rule out anything else like Asthma but,I think it was just an Upper Respiratory Infection. There is a lot of things it could have been, such as bronchitis. It's pretty difficult to make a accurate diagnoses over the internet.

I think you need to go to a doctor and have some blood work done. Explain this cycle of illness to him/her and get to the bottom of it. This is not normal, especially if you are taking good care of yourself. Yes, there may be an underlying problem. But the good news is, it is probably treatable.
