Why do Alternative Med quacks hate science?
I go into a vitamin shop and the store manager and I always fight. I go in for my creatine, protein, ext and she will try to sell me say vitamin c. I tell her that studies clearly show that vitamin c does not work for preventing the flu or cold. She of course says its a big conspiracy. People on here say a study is a study and its applied statistics, not science,

Do these people hate facts? Would they rather think they can wish something to work rather that look at the fact that it doesn't???? What does that even mean...its just applied statistics?

'Do these people hate facts?'

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Einstein, have you even thought about what you've written? I rather think you've failed your own argument.

You do realise that you are attacking the people rather than the argument with that nonsense.

And if you are trying to make a point about statistics and science then you haven't studied either subject. The assumptions in any study mean that any statistical results, on there own, are open to interpretation. And if you've bothered to read any studies, you would know that they do not say "proves conclusively". The words more often used are "indicate" or "suggest".

The fact is that very often you can make the statistics say different things, based on how selectively you use them and whether you elaborate on the assumptions made.

actually they're right and you're wrong. there's science, then there's fraud based, greed driven, pseudoscience. looks like you've swallowed a load of that already.

Well science has got a bad rap....there is good science and just plain bad, fraudulent and manipulated science. Sadly this bad science is what you will usually see with drug company trials. There are many ways to manipulate a "scientific" trial to produce the results you want. When an independant company tested all the new drug trials from pharmaceutical companies, 85% were found to be "lemons" - ineffective but were classed as "effective" by drug company "science" and ready to be approved by FDA.

Good science has found Vitamin D helps prevent cold and flu and there are many studies supporting this. This is just coming to light (pun intended lol) as more and more research emerges of the essential role vitamin D plays in activating the immune system. Vitamin C is necessary for immune function so it's not exactly a wild idea that vitamin C can help when you are feeling ill.

The benefit of vitamin C has been shown in studies however of people undergoing extreme physical exercise (marathon runners) or people exposed to extreme cold (skiers and soldiers in arctic weather) were half as likely to come down with cold symptoms if they were taking a vitamin C supplement and children taking a vitamin C supplement had shorter colds by 13% and adults taking a vitamin C supplement had shorter colds by 8%. Essential nutrients for optimal immune function - vitamin A, B6, B9, B12, C, D, E and minerals copper, iron, selenium and zinc. >>>

"Studies clearly show..." What studies? How do you know which studies to trust? Studies showed before that vitamin C is very helpful in preventing flu or cold. Vitamin C help to prevent many other illnesses as well. Now, knowing this people don't need to go to the doctor and don't need to buy all kinds of 'pills' because they are healthier ... but the fact that people are healthier is not making the docs and pharmaceutical businesses richer. So go figure!
There is a book "God's Medicine Is Best" by Linda Wise. It is not in the bookstores for a reason, but it helped me and many others with some serious health problems. 'They' don't allow it on the market-too many people had helped themselves. God Bless you!
