Does having a cold during early pregnancy harm the baby?
I read somewhere that having the flu during the first half of pregnancy can increase the risk of schizophrenia in the child. I'm worried that having a cold could do something bad like that. I'm 5 weeks pregnant and have been exposed to someone with a cold. I want the baby to be healthy and smart, but I'm worried now.

I had a cold around the same time I found out I was pregnant (4 weeks). I am 23 weeks today and so far my little boy is growing nicely! Don't worry! Your baby will be fine!

I have not ever heard that. I had colds with both my girls and they are just fine. I say not to worry about it too much. Ask your dr to be on the safe side.

Don't worry :) I had the flu and spent a week in the Hospital when I was 18 weeks pregnant and my daughter came out fine.

I know how you feel.. I had strep throat when i was pregnant. I went to a lake after hours and they wanted to give me a shot of steroids and antibiotics to treat me. I made them call the on call dr. at my delivering hospital and have him tell me i would be fine.. You will be fine too. I also had bad allergies during my pregnancy, my dr. px me claritin D, it worked wonders! I have a beautiful, healthy and very smart 2 year old daughter.

I have never believed all that crap you can hear about. If its not from your doctor, not believe it. And no it will not. I remember I was getting sick alot while I was pregnant with my first daughter, especially towards the end. My doctor didn't seem too worried about it so I wasn't. All she told me to do was to take some tylenol cold when I was sick and to check back with her. But it never came to anything serious. My daughter was born healthy and happy, so shes perfectly fine, and so will you and yours. Don't worry about that stuff, you'll be just fine :)
